1. Clean First, Disinfect Afterward - Duel method

During your cleaning routine, it is important to thoroughly clean surfaces before adding disinfectant. Both of these methods can ensure that your home remains free from Covid-19 and other viruses/bacteria. It is important to regularly use household cleaners and commercial grade disinfectants on surfaces that are regularly touched, such as doorknobs, gates, outdoor bins,  hand rails, bathroom fixtures, phones, keys and even your car doors. We call these “High - touch point surfaces”  A surface can be disinfected by applying the product and ensuring that the surface is visibly wet for up to 10 minutes. You can then let it dry naturally. a COVID-19 proof Disinfectant is a product that contains greater or equal to 70% alcohol, quaternary ammonium compounds, chlorine bleach or oxygen bleach.

2. Let in Some Air

You can make cleaning easier and make your living space more comfortable by ensuring that the windows are left open at least once a day. It is important to have ventilation whilst cleaning, and letting in fresh air can make a huge difference in the way your home smells and feels. If you have “essential people/services” that don’t live in your home on premise, its recommended to improve airflow to minimise transmission. This is guidance from the Govt. (they also reccomend opening windows when in the car with 2 people.. although a bit hard when it is 8 degrees and you’re already in the car!!). You may also consider window cleaning if you spot a lot of dirt and grime on your windows –Don’t worry, with all this going on = The Pristine Homes and Gardens team can definitely help you with that!

3. Keep a Consistent Technique

It is important to have a cleaning routine that you stick to. This can make it easier to keep up with cleaning on a consistent basis. You can assign different tasks for different days, and split up responsibilities between the household. It is also vital to have a good cleaning technique. Make sure that you keep separate microfiber cloths for each room. You should clean from high to low, and minimise cross contamination – Ie. Toilet last. Avoid cleaning in a circular motion since this can blend in the debris that you are trying to remove.

4. Clean areas in groups

It can seem like a hassle to clean the whole house, and especially to clean high-touch areas regularly. But, it is something that needs to be done to minimise the spread of the virus within a household. An easy way to keep organised is by cleaning areas in groups. For example, in one go, you may clean choose to clean room - by- room, or you may choose particular items, ie. the kitchen handles and cupboards. Cleaning in an organised manner ensures that you won't miss a spot, and it also means you can clean more efficiently.

Some people may opt to dust and cobweb top to bottom of each room, then move onto surfaces, finally the floors – Sweeping / Vacuuming and Mopping. You will need to pay attention to detail in areas such as the Bathroom for cross contamination and infection control.
